Tam’s Tips
Time to Spring Forward!
With summer on the way and you’re commitment to improve your wellness, you must be looking forward to reaping the benefits of increased energy levels and improved self-confidence during these social months! Now that you’re feeling positive changes on the inside, wouldn’t it be wonderful to show your radiance off on the outside too?
It can be difficult to see ourselves in a new light when we are accustomed to feeling or looking a particular way. But, even as we increase our health & wellness, making the most of our natural assets further improves our self-confidence, helps us feel more in control, and even improves the way in which others view us.
I am often approached by people when they have specific goals in mind: making sure they are projecting the right qualities at work or socially, showing off positive changes during or after a major life change like pregnancy, menopause, illness or a change in weight – even when they’re just sick and tired of the same old wardrobe they’ve stared at for far too many seasons. In every case there are some easy ways to ensure that we put our very best foot forward each day.*
1) Wardrobe Review:
Set aside some relaxed time, make yourself some tea, and browse through your closet. Try on your outfits and see which still fit and which seem worse for wear. Things to look for:
- Have you worn and/or purchased these items within the past 3 years?
- Do items still hold their original shape?
- Is the fabric still new looking?
- Are there pills or ‘balling’? Holes or Tears? Faded colours or stains?
- Do they fit smoothly over your figure?
- Do they pull or bag excessively?
- Do you still enjoy the item?
If you answered “yes” to questions a, b, c, e and g and “no” to questions d and f, then these items should stay! If you have answered “no” to a, b, c e, and g or “yes” to d and f, then unless you have these items tailored for you so they are right for you today, sadly, these items should find new homes with people who really need them.
2) Colour Yourself Happy:
Ensure that your wardrobe contains items in colours and patterns that suit YOU. Even though we might love a certain colour objectively, it may not make the most of our natural assets. When choosing colours, choose those which make your complexion appear more even, lifted, or enlivened. Colours that work for you give you a little colour in the cheek, help the colour of your eyes to pop, and give a person an overall look of good health.
3) Let Yourself Shine:
Ensure that your clothes fit your current figure. Even if you are still in transition, your positive outlook and motivation to succeed will increase and continue to rise when you wear clothes that fit you as your body changes because you’ll feel more comfortable with your new body – and gain lots of positive reinforcement from others too! Even having one or two shirts or pairs of pants for this time of transition will help you get through any ‘awkward’ periods. You’ll be surprised how much more confident you feel!
4) You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile!
Our best feature will always be a happy and confident disposition. And, studies show that when you smile or laugh – even if you aren’t happy – your mood shifts and your feelings brighten! Share a bit of spring by passing on a smile to those around you!
Spring & summer are the time of re-birth, of beginning fresh and growing into beautiful colour! I hope these simple steps help you to make this your season to blossom!
